About the Role:  Our client requires a Herd Manager to join their team from the start of the 2025 dairy season. Located just five minutes from Temuka, South Canterbury, the farm milks 700 Kiwi-cross, Friesian, and Jersey cows. With 95% of the farm under center pivot irrigation and the remainder k-line, our irrigation their effluent dispersal systems are well set up. A grass-based system supplemented with additional feed where needed to ensure cows are well-fed.50-bale rotary shed is equipped with cup removers, Protrack, and in-shed feeding. Cows are wintered off-farm and managed by the farm. They have a strong focus on breeding from their best cows while maximising beef genetics where possible. Remuneration Package:

  • Hourly rate: $27 - $29/hour (depending on experience)
  • 3-bedroom house with wood burner, heat pump & garage included
  • Meat gifted throughout the year
  • Firewood freely available for use

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Milking and shed management
  • Monitoring animal health and assisting with treatments
  • Managing day-to-day farm tasks and guiding new team members
  • Setting up and taking down temporary electric fences
  • Irrigation and effluent system maintenance
  • General farm maintenance and machinery operation
  • Assisting with calving and calf rearing
  • Data recording and technology use for farm management

Role Requirements:

  • Strong English and communication skills
  • Good attitude to learn and receive feedback
  • Genuine interest in animal welfare
  • Ability to lead and manage daily farm operations when needed
  • Physically fit and healthy
  • Sound computer and technology skills
  • Ability to follow procedures and make good decisions
  • Ideally 2-3 years of proven dairy farm experience
