Common Questions About New Zealand Dairy Jobs

Do I Need a Vehicle

Yes, having a vehicle is essential in New Zealand due to its remote nature. A car is necessary for transportation and convenience.

What Are the Typical Working Hours?

In the dairy industry, work hours and rosters can vary. Average hours are approx 45 per week, however, over calving can be 45-55 and during the summer months, this can be 35-40. Rosters also vary based on farm requirements. Your employment offer will clarify the expected working hours, and roster.

Is Accommodation Included?

Absolutely, accommodation is provided on all farms, this is either shared accommodation with your own room or your own accommodation, all of which meet New Zealand's accommodation standards.

What Will My Wage Be?

Farmers provide industry-standard wages, but actual remuneration varies among employers due to factors such as skills, experience, location, responsibilities, and tasks. We negotiate on your behalf to secure a competitive offer.

What are the locations of farms?

Farms are located in the South Island of New Zealand with the main areas being North, Mid and South Canterbury and Southland and Otago.

Do I need travel insurance?

All students are required to have personal travel and medical insurance. While New Zealand has reciprocal agreements for free hospital care with Australian and British passport holders, this coverage doesn't extend to dentists, doctor visits, surcharges, or unforeseen circumstances.

Is car Insurance compulsory?

Car insurance isn't mandatory in New Zealand, but it is highly recommended. Fortunately, car insurance in New Zealand is reasonably priced compared to European standards. Getting insurance coverage is advisable.

Can I Be Placed Near My Friends?

While we understand the desire to be close to friends, New Zealand's vastness makes it challenging to guarantee proximity. Placements depend on farm vacancies, required skills, and farmer preferences. However, we do our best to accommodate such requests.

Real Success Stories

Trina was amazing! She was so nice and helpful. She didn't give up on finding us a farm even when the first 2 didn't work out. She has found us a really great farm to work for that we both really enjoy. Thank you so much, Trina for everything!

Austin and Hannah

Trina was great in helping to organise everything and gave me so much reassurance and support when undertaking such a big move.

Becky

Very clear and good communication. Quickly set me up with work for very nice employers. She negotiated the wage and living arrangements at the farm for me. She listened to my wishes regarding the type of employment that I was looking for. Would absolutely recommend it!

Daniel

Helped me every step of the way; they were definitely friendly and caring people!

William

Highly recommend, very helpful - Help us settle in and get the hang of things.

Enda Hughes

Working along with MaxPeople made the process of coming over much easier, as everything was well-regimented and organised for me coming over. I would highly encourage for every student to participate in a placement abroad and engage in the opportunity to see the world.
